Utilities Permit Engineer Job at Balfour Beatty in Birmingham
Balfour Beatty Vinci has an exciting opportunity for a Utilities Permit Engineer to join our team to work in Birmingham.
Role Purpose:
To review drawings looking for potential locations of trial holes, to aid Section Engineers and Site Engineers by undertaking Site Engineering and implementation of works on site, including utility marking on site and area mark-ups of installed utilities along with monitoring and reporting of progress. To provide knowledge, management, guidance and implementation of safe systems of work for the avoidance of damage to underground and overhead services. With gathered information produce permits to disturb ground.
What you’ll be doing
Champion the BBV values and support the delivery of BBV’s sustainability activities
Conduct Safety Inspections and Hazard Identification contributing to the development of SSoW
Review Method Statements and Risk Assessments with the Engineering Team and Utilities Coordinator making suggestions for improvements as appropriate
Complete field audits confirming the sufficiency of control documentation
Manage and implement the permit to Disturb Ground system minimising the risk of service strikes, producing permits, implementing safe systems of work and briefing the workforce on processes
Monitor the effectiveness of the workforce throughout the lifecycle of the scheme
Check all services scanning and cable locating equipment is calibrated and up to date
Ensure all permits are up to date cancelling and archiving accordingly
Develop relationships with external stakeholders sharing knowledge and new innovations within the utility industry that may improve efficiencies or further reduce the risk of service strikes
Update and maintain utility services drawings for the scheme with existing, uncharted and new services
Liaise with and document discussions with utility companies and subcontractors
Raise awareness within the Project Team relating to working in the vicinity of services
Aid Section Engineers and Site Engineers to provide accurate As-Built information to assist the Maintenance Provider of the Network minimising service strikes during the future maintenance of the scheme
Advise on new system of work employed by Statutory undertakers
Conduct trend analysis of Breaking Ground works identifying improvement areas for non-conformance and business improvement
Implement systems and processes to support all works associated with Breaking Ground
Complete Site Audits to check works and documentation compliance
Liaise with designer to resolve possible technical issues such as service clashes
Ensure that all works regarding installations are in line with NJUG (National Joint Utilities Group) standards
Attend planning meetings and raise and answer queries relating to the interface of the planned operations and the known site utilities
Manage the trial hole investigations to locate unknown utilities
Remove and record hazardous waste including Asbestos
Record removed services, undisclosed services and additional work
Who we’re looking for
Experience gained from a Permit Coordinator role or Engineer role where you have managed permit procedures including Permits to Disturb Ground
Construction environment experience where buried services need accommodating
Construction engineering process experience in Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Communications, Structures or Roadworks
Experience of safe system of work, method statements and risk assessments
Working knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and Environmental awareness
Working knowledge of design drawings and programmes including CAD
CSCS Card
A current driving license
