ABOUT THIS POSITION
This position supports tasking at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) for the United States Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS) in Patuxent River, MD. The selected candidate will serve as an Airborne and Unmanned Systems Instructor (AUS) and pilot. The individual will provide all aspects of test instruction for the AUS faculty with potential to be utilized as a Test Pilot Instructor in the Fixed Wing or Rotary Wing department. As part of the world’s largest independent flight test organization supporting both US Government and commercial agencies, you will be joining a highly talented and experienced KBR aircrew services team that has provided over 40 continuous years of Test Aircrew support for NAVAIR. As a long term incumbent and leader in test aircrew expertise, the selected applicant will work within the USNTPS environment composed of government, military, contractor and industry personnel while supporting flight test. USNTPS operates thirteen types, models and series of aircraft. The applicant will work as part of the team in educating aviators and engineers in the design, risk management, execution, and communication of aircraft and systems testing for combat. Sign-on bonus and relocation stipend available.
The candidate shall be a graduate of one of the following test pilot schools: USNTPS, USAFTPS, ETPS or EPNER Test Pilot School. The candidate shall be experienced specifically in complex, modern Airborne and Unmanned Systems testing. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years of related experience. Must be able to maintain a FAA Class II medical certificate. The candidate must be able to demonstrate effective oral and written communications skills in technical report writing. A minimum of 1000 flight hours as aircrew, in fixed/rotary aircraft required.
The successful applicant must possess at least two (2) years of test-oriented experience. The successful applicant must possess at least one (1) year of ground or in-flight instructor experience. Individual must be able to pass the physical and training qualification requirements to provide contract aircrew support, including completion of survival and aviation physiology training.
Recent experience (within 3 years) as an Airborne and Unmanned Systems flight instructor is highly desired as is an understanding of mission systems test techniques. A Master’s degree is desired and/or an engineering/technical degree. A minimum of 100 hours (or equivalent) operating UAS aircraft in the last two (2) years is highly desired.
