The Aviation team are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join their team. This individual will support the underwriters with their day to day administrative and technical responsibilities and alongside the future development of their own underwriting abilities. The role will support the CGM Aviation portfolio across all lines of business, however, will report into the Airline team.

This is an ideal role for somebody looking for an opportunity to transition from an operational role into an underwriting role, who already has at least 1-2 years insurance experience. Whilst insurance experience is helpful, the Aviation team would consider outstanding candidates with no prior insurance experience where they can demonstrate a strong understanding of data science and managing processes.

Key Responsibilities

Shadow Underwriters to learn the underwriting process in a team that believes in learning by doing

Support Underwriters by preparing and gathering data required to make business decisions

Assist underwriters to prioritise and record new business and renewal submissions

Track premium income bookings meet expected figures and investigate any differences

Monitor aggregate exposures, assist in the modelling of the Airline business, and manage and monitor portfolio metrics

Learn all financial, legal, regulatory and compliance requirements as related to the running of an insurance portfolio

Manage interactions between Underwriting and Operations functions to ensure all outstanding queries are addressed

Oversee Broker business pipelines, preparing for and attending relationship meetings where appropriate

Attend technical presentations and training programs, both internally and externally, to enhance technical understanding of the Aviation product line


Minimum GCSE, Maths and English essential and 3 A-levels or equivalent

Must be willing to or have already started to study for professional insurance qualifications such as those provided by the CII

Competency in Microsoft Office required, advanced capabilities in Excel and or Data/Computer Science experience looked upon favourably

Preferably have at least one years’ experience in the London or Lloyd’s market and the processing of insurance business although not essential

Flexibility and ability to adapt to rapidly changing commercial and operational environments

Ability to demonstrate logical approach to processes and problem solving

Excellent organisational skills to manage their time effectively and prioritise work accordingly
