Systems Engineer II – Avionics (HYBRID) Job at Collins Aerospace – 3.6 in Cedar Rapids, IA

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the Avionics Fusion IPS Systems group. This team is responsible for the design, integration, development, certification, deployment and sustaining of our Avionics Systems on Bombardier large business jets through the lifecycle of the programs. The platforms supported includes more than 500 fielded aircraft for the Global 5000, 5500, 6000, 6500 and 7500×00/6×00/7500 programs.

Position will be Hybrid, located in Cedar Rapids, IA. A comprehensive relocation package is available.

Primary Responsibilities:
On-site execution of requirements-based testing, robustness and Ad-Hoc testing in a lab environment (schedule flexibility is necessary during formal test phases)

Produces system certification level documentation

Assists with the tracking and troubleshooting of assigned development and field issues

Collaborates with engineers across multiple subsystems contributing toward a positive team working environment

Candidate will participate in the development life cycle of software and hardware integration of Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) Avionics in a Fusion IPS architecture, supporting requirements development, software integration, documentation, certification and sustaining activities for large size Business Jets as part of a Systems Engineering group.

Candidate will own the troubleshooting and reporting of issues resulting from development cycles and investigations reported from fielded aircraft.

Candidates will independently operate the rig facilities during testing phases of the program and during troubleshooting activities.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) ) and 2 years of prior relevant experience OR

In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required

Problem Solving & Hands-On Troubleshooting abilities

Capable of operating the test facilities (rigs and simulations) executing scripted flight test scenarios

Understanding of avionics and aircraft systems and sub-systems

Understanding of aircraft operational fundamentals are required to be able to run flight test scenarios.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing in a DO-254, DO-160, DO-178B/C DO-297, ARP4754A and FAA/TCCA/EASA regulatory environment.

Experience with Agile methodologies
