The Space Mission Integration department within the Space Warfighting division is in search for talented astronautical engineers, mathematicians, orbital mechanics, physics and aerospace engineers with the desire to analyze space object characteristics and run assessments using modeling and simulation toolsets. The ideal candidate would work across geographically diverse teams at MITRE to deliver cross cutting research that would have direct impact to a diverse portfolio of space work programs. Candidates must be self starters, successfully apply math and physics based characteristics to modeling and simulation (M&S) problem sets to help our nation protect and defend our space assets. Responsibilities_Include_But_Are_Not_Limited_To * Apply critical math and physics knowledge to contribute to and grow the MITRE Engineering and Space Analysis (MESA) team impact to sponsor work programs * Engage with MITRE project leaders and task leaders to identify touchpoints for modeling, simulation, and analysis opportunities * Demonstrate broad knowledge of math and physics applied to space (sensors, satellites) * Formulate and demonstrate creative thinking by proposing experiments and prototypes to the engineering analysis teams that impact sponsor mission and decisions * Demonstrate an ability to build partnerships across MITRE programs through the M&S analysis team * Be part of a dynamic team assessing utility and performance of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaisance (ISR) and space control sensors, SSA command & control (C2), and Space Battle Management C2 (BMC2) concepts and systems against sponsor requirements * Provide technical analysis support to SSA enterprise-level architecture tradestudies * Analyze and model sensor concepts, develop sensor configurations and scenarios, identify performance measures, and conduct analyses using relevant simulation tools * Propose software code changes and enhancements as needed to improve model/tool capabilities * Develop technical reports and presentations on analysis results, options, and recommendations Required_Qualifications * Expertise in math and applicability to problem sets that include sensors, satellites, electromagnetics * Expert understanding and application of orbital mechanics * Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance * B.S. in math, physics, astrodynamics, or something similar * Knowledgeable with programming concepts and tools (e.g. Python, Java, C/ C++, MatLab, or GO) * Experience with data management systems (RDBMS, big data, etc.) a plus * Baseline understanding of space systems Preferred_Qualifications * M.S. in math, physics or astrodynamics * Experience in the space domain (astrodynamics, communications, resource loading, space sensor modeling) * Experience with database applications (mySQL/PostgreSQL), commercial and open source developer tools (IntelliJ, NetBeans, Eclipse, Atlassian tool suite). * Demonstrated curiosity to explore emerging technologies and exhibits an interest in continuing education. * Ability to translate and decompose functional requirements into software architecture and testable features. * Has participated or worked with a SAFe Agile development team MITRE is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
