The Senior Engineer role in the Material Mechanics and Durability organization is responsible for developing the understanding of novel materials and material systems by working with cross disciplinary teams spanning material science, mechanics and design. As a Senior engineer you will contribute to the organization through technical leadership and organizational citizenship. Key pieces of the job are impactful technical contributions, technical leadership, growth of team members, providing meaningful feedback and being a source of positivity for the organization.

Job Description

Collaborate with Aviation Research colleagues to identify and resolve technical challenges for high temperature testing of materials and constitutive modeling
Collaborate Aviation design communities in the development of component models, stress analysis and lifing methods Ceramic Matrix Composites, barrier coatings and superalloys.
Develop and own technology roadmaps for various focus areas in computational and experimental mechanics.
Participate in responding to government grants
Provide guidance and direction across the group where necessary to grow the overall technical capability of the team.
Serve as a technical resource to resolve key, short term high risk technical issues in technical focus areas.
Deliver effective presentations, reports and publications to engineering staff, GE Aerospace and external agencies.

Required Qualifications

PhD in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience is required.
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will NOT sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

Desired Qualifications

In-depth knowledge of high temperature failure modes for materials, mechanical design and analysis methods.
Experience in experimental test techniques (Nickel based superalloys and CMC materials).
Domain knowledge in gas turbine design and gas turbine lifing technologies.
Experience with ANSYS APDL and CAD/Meshing packages (UniGraphics, Pro-Engineer, Hypermesh etc.).
Familiarity with high temperature experimental techniques, data acquisition systems, digital image correlation, acoustic emission technique, Infrared camera thermal measurements etc.
Understanding of composite material mechanics (CMC) and nickel based superalloys
Strong analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
