RAPTOR PROPULSION TECHNICIAN (MAINTENANCE, REPAIR, & OVERHAUL) The Raptor maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) team is responsible for the disassembly, inspection, and re-assembly and test of rocket engine hardware and supports the fast-paced development the Raptor engine programs. The technicians on this team are versatile, highly skilled, dedicated and efficient with their work. Each team member will wear several hats and must interface with different engineers for each project. Technicians own critical hardware and ensure it is manufactured on time and with the highest quality. Candidates should possess a combination of solid mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience, and the willingness and ability to learn. This is a dynamic position that requires flexibility to work on a variety of systems with frequent changes, and the ability to work autonomously to defined schedules while keeping safety and quality at the forefront. RESPONSIBILITIES: – Perform precision teardown, inspection and assembly on complex Raptor assemblies – Adjust or align through shimming and other means of mechanical adjustments specified by blueprint or other specification limits – Utilize a variety of mechanical measuring equipment such as: dial indicators, calipers, and micrometers to obtain proper assembly-build requirements – Maintain dimensional accuracy on assemblies utilizing torque wrenches, fixtures, tooling, gauges, and other measuring devices – Work from assembly instructions both written and oral – Perform various test operations on production or repair using equipment, fixtures and tools – Diagnose common test failures and recommend or perform rework to correct discrepancies – Hold problem units for engineering disposition – Ensure that units are set up and tested in conformance with current revision letters and bring to the supervisor’s attention any condition that is abnormal – Responsible for testing repair models for conformance to acceptance test procedures that are normally part of their expertise – Utilize mechanical or electronic measuring equipment and perform tests to validate the acceptance of the model to current test requirements – Order parts as necessary utilizing the WARP system. Responsible for proper documentation of parts replaced and work performed on data sheets. Disposition non-conforming parts in conformance with Moog and Government specifications. Assist in determining repair revisions – This position could be required to do both assembly and test – Put safety as the number one priority – Keep a clean, organized, and thoroughly maintained work space – Ensure product quality and conformance to specifications and/or engineering requirements – Coordinate support from other groups – Develop and implement efficiency improvement projects – Independently perform verifications and document results in a clear, precise and complete manner – Responsible for cleaning of tools, valves, regulators etc – Operate test cell instrumentation and use computer network systems, as well as test units as described in the test instruction – Accept or reject test units based on calculated test data and results – Perform work according to procedures, specifications and test instructions BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: – High school diploma or equivalency certificate – 3+ years of mechanical assembly experience PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: – Experience working in the military or at an aviation manufacturing company – 1+ years of experience working at SpaceX as a level 3 technician – Ability to read, interpret and work from drawings, controlled documentation and processes such as: layout drawings, mechanical drawings, assembly procedures and work instructions, schematics, engineering drawings, and parts list – Electro-mechanical assembly and prototype development experience – Complete training in the staging, installation, removal and de-staging of propulsion engines – Knowledge of pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices; mechanical and electrical systems – Strong mathematical skills – Ability to work independently or as part of a team while meeting aggressive schedules – Proficient with computers with the ability to use MS Office and shop floor management software (ERP) – Basic computer, problem solving, and decision making skills – Strong written and verbal communication skills ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: – This role will be both 1st and 2nd shift – must be open to all shifts, overtime and weekends as needed – Must be able to climb ladders and work in tight spaces – Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces – Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted – Must be willing to travel to different SpaceX locations for assistance.
