Position title: Manager, Airport Safety and Operations

Reports to: Director, Safety

Location: Montreal

1. Summary

The Manager Airport Safety and Operations leads specific Airport Safety and Operations related tasks and projects as well as provides support to the ongoing work across the Safety, Security and Operations Department. The Manager acts as a technical expert in the domain of airport safety and operations, liaising with ACI Members, the ACI Regions, ICAO and other organizations to deliver policy and projects.

2. Primary Responsibilities

ACI Safety and Airport Operations

· Support the work of the ACI World Safety and Technical Standing Committee and its associated subgroups and work programmes

· Develop ACI guidance documents, such as handbooks, guides and papers

· Support the work of the APEX and Safety Training Advisory Group

· Manage the ACI Safety Data Collection programme, as well as its future developments

· Compile information on safety and technical issues and draft ACI policy

· Draft articles for publications, the ACI Insights Blog and other communication means

· Carry out other duties as assigned

Cross organization and department support

· Provide technical expertise and support across the SSO Department in areas such as Facilitation, Security, Airport Operations, Airport IT, etc.

· Provide technical expertise and support across the organization as needed

· Assist in ACI advisory and consulting opportunities by providing technical expertise

· Support ACI events, in particular of Safety and Operational nature

Cooperation with ICAO

· Review agendas and minutes of ICAO Panel and Study Group meetings to decide when and where to intervene

· Prepare of formal responses to ICAO, including State Letters, working papers, etc.

· Represent ACI and provide subject matter expertise in ICAO groups as needed

· Develop ACI input to ICAO documents, where ICAO is asking the industry to provide input

· Provide support to the SSO Department teams in preparing for and managing major ICAO events

Industry cooperation

· Liaise with other industry groups across the range of industry associations

· Represent ACI and provide subject matter expertise in industry groups as needed

3. Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge/Education

· University degree in a technical or business domain, such as aviation, engineering, planning, safety or equivalent

· Desirable: supplementary airport or aviation-related professional qualification

Experience/Years and Type

· 3 to 5 years of experience in airport operations, operational safety and/or safety management at an airport, preferably working for an airport operator, or with an international aviation organization.

· Highly desirable, cross sectoral airport operations experience (airside, airspace, terminal, security, etc.) preferably working for an airport operator

· Desirable: previous experience of working with ICAO, and knowledge of the ICAO regulatory framework (Convention, Annexes, PANS, Manuals)

· Desirable: experience in emergency preparedness, contingency planning and/or business recovery

· Desirable: experience in safety auditing and/or inspection

· Desirable: experience as an instructor and presenter

· Desirable: experience in data analysis and data science

· Desirable: experience in international and/or public policy setting

Skills and Abilities

· Excellent technical writing and spoken English skills

· Working knowledge of other languages desirable – French and/or Spanish – an advantage

· Pro-active, collegial, tactful, diplomatic and discreet in all dealings

· Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with ACI staff members

· Develop close relationships with ACI Regional Offices

· Ability to work in a service-orientated culture, delivering excellent service levels to ACI members

· Carry out all tasks required effectively, accurately and quickly

· Ability to conduct analysis of data and create data dashboards

· Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office)

· Ability to communicate in a welcoming, effective and dynamic manner
