At the Institute for AI Safety and Security, you will be head of department. In particular, you use your extensive experience in the areas of the development and use of AI-based components/systems, to define and prioritize the scientific topics of your team with reference to the Institute’s overall goals, to initiate ambitious research and development projects and to guarantee high scientific quality. Safety and security by design are important principles that shape your own work and the scientific work within your department. In doing so, you always consider all the data-based/-centric activities in the entire life cycle of an AI-based component/system.
You cooperate with other departments within the institute for AI Safety and Security as well as with other institutes within the DLR in order to combine a high degree of scientific depth with a high level of practical relevance for your research activities. With the same objective, you will also build up a network of scientific partners and partners from the industry with whom you will initiate research and development projects. In addition, you commit yourself to fulfill your personnel management and development responsibilities as well as to support administrative processes with relevance for your activities in the Institute for AI-Safety and Security as well as in the DLR.
In the future, your results will be indispensable in aviation, space travel as well as in the fields of energy and transport. By this you contribute to the safety-oriented introduction of AI-based solutions in ambitious application classes.
We aim to further strengthen your scientific profile in cooperation with a scientific university.
Degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering or comparable disciplines from a scientific university as well as a PhD as well as several years of experience and possibly a lecture qualification / habilitation
Competencies in the areas of AI methods and technologies
Competencies in the areas of data infrastructures in the context of the entire life-cycles of AI-based components/systems
Competencies in the field of security
Experience in the acquisition of scientific projects and project work
Experience in leading scientific projects
Proficiency in English, both spoken and written
Competencies for structuring complex scientific work areas
Experience in the management of scientific teams
Experience in the use of simulation tools and the implementation of software solutions
