We have an exciting opportunity for a Fulltime versatile and talented Ground Handling Manager to join the Menzies Aviation Team based at the Cairns International & Domestic Airport, supporting both of Australia’s major airlines.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the General Manager – Ground Handling Queensland, you will be responsible for managing the functional and strategic activities of the Cairns Ground Services including, ramp operations, passenger operations and lounge services. This includes cultivating a strong relationship with local airport and airline partners, government agencies and local industry representatives to maximize business potential and provide a stable commercial environment.

Being a pragmatic and strategic business partner for our Cairns based operational team is our goal. Whilst your role is operational in function, your daily/weekly/yearly deliverables will be focused around the following areas:

Provide leadership for all staff involved in the delivery of ground handling and lounge services

Set and ensure operational procedures achieve quality and performance standards

Maximize service delivery while constantly managing costs to maximize profitability

Meet ground handling and lounge service performance objectives by monitoring, reporting and follow-up of actual performance

Planning and implementation of manpower requirements and training needs

Assess staff performance, conduct and coordinate appraisals and deal with any disciplinary issues that may arise

Development of an efficient, customer focused and industrially stable workforce, based on a strategy of staff involvement, accountability, development and team work

Maintain a strong knowledge and understanding of Industrial Relations and applicable Industrial Instruments

Maintain a high standard of presentation for Menzies Aviation by ensuring client ground handling and lounge standards are consistently met.

Establish and maintain relationships with sub-contractors and monitor their performance

Establish and maintain relationships with Airport authorities, client airlines and applicable governmental agencies

Control resource and cost allocation within budgetary restraints

Responsible for day-to-day operational performance, safety, security and customer satisfaction through effective support and management of delivery areas

Undertake independent safety audits and observations regularly

Primary point of contact for client airlines

What we need from you

Professional, approachable and warm in style with a strong attention to detail

Previous experience in the same or similar role for a minimum of 2-3 years

Effectively and efficiently work autonomously

You will be extremely flexible and happy to get down into the detail and be operational

Exposure to a blue-collar workforce will be highly regarded

Strong ability to problem solve and deliver solution based outcomes

Can anticipate needs, be agile and flexible to ensure deadlines are met

Strong stakeholder services skills

Effective and efficient time management skills

Strong written & verbal communication skills, with a focus on detail

Proficient ability to utilise the Microsoft Office suite

The ability to undergo a pre-employment medical and Federal Police Check
