Engineering Team Leader Job at Teesside International Airport in Darlington

About the role:

Reporting directly into the Facilities and Project Manager this is a new role to oversee the Engineering department. The Team Leader role will lead and manage the team to ensure that all operations and maintenance are scheduled and completed efficiently, effectively and in accordance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.

Specific duties will include:

  • To manage, plan and prioritise all Engineering works on site in accordance with Airport standards and operational needs
  • To allocate daily tasks to a team of multi-skilled engineers, ensuring that work is completed to the required standard and times scales and that engineers respond to breakdowns and emergency repairs promptly
  • To manage the training and development of the Engineering team to ensure a flexible and multi-skilled function and required competency on all systems and equipment
  • To manage and ensure completion of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules and identify and implement improvements
  • Organise and liaise with external sub-contractors for site repair / maintenance and installations ensuring works are completed to the required standard and times scales
  • To ensure there is a suitable provision of equipment and spares / parts to complete all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance – complying with financial procedures and budgets for raising orders
  • Taking a ‘hands on’ role when required.
  • Nominated ‘Authorised Person’ for the Electricity at Work Act for the LV Distribution System
  • Ensuring that all Health & Safety requirements are met including Risk Assessments/Method Statements.
  • Assist the Facilities and Project Manager to oversee projects including attendance at meetings and liaison with external parties and contractor

What you’ll bring:

  • Recognised Engineering qualification, Mechanically or Electrically biased to ONC, HNC or Degree Level
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification is essential and experience of High Voltage (HV) systems would be an advantage
  • Proven hands on engineering maintenance experience in a multi-skilled environment and a willingness to learn new skills
  • The ability to lead and motivate a team – previous experience of leading an Engineering / Maintenance team would be an advantage
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships
  • The ability to multi-task and work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Strong IT skills and an ability to produce written communications including reports and emails
  • Experience of working in an aviation environment and Airfield Ground Lighting would be an advantage
  • A flexible attitude to working hours – the successful candidate will form part of the standby call out roster covering one week in three
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence

In order to obtain a security pass, you will also be required to complete a Criminal Records Check and a five-year background check via references.
