Analyze, research and test materials and related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials used in aircraft structures, systems and components. Assist and support engineering and manufacturing with material selection and process development/improvement to conform to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Company requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Focal point for all aspects of Materials and Process Engineering.
Support design engineers in the selection of materials and processes to yield the optimum balance between function, cost and manufacturability for new design.
Support sustaining engineers in the selection of materials and processes to improve the function, cost and manufacturability for existing design.
Support manufacturing in developing, testing, and applying manufacturing processes required for the manufacture of aircraft.
Maintain a working knowledge of current materials and process used in the aircraft industry.
Develop material specifications to define and control the nature and quality of materials used in the manufacture aircraft.
Prepare process specifications that define and control specific manufacturing processes for the production of aircraft and aircraft assemblies.
Support the quality department in the documentation and control of the materials and processes used in the manufacturing of aircraft, and aircraft assemblies.
Interface with suppliers to resolve material and process problems in a manner that will assure quality product or service.
Assist in training and development of personnel to expand the general knowledge of the materials and process discipline.
Provide technical support to engineering and manufacturing to ensure products and processes adhere to FAA and company requirements.
Represent engineering in Material Review Board (MRB) process f nonconformance resolution
Perform other related duties as required.

Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university is required.
2-3 years of experience in the aircraft industry as a Materials and Processes Engineer is preferred.
Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) 23 requirements relating to materials, properties, processes, and applications is preferred.
The employee must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers in both written and oral form. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to deal with personnel situations.
Considerable organizational and time management skills are required to successfully perform the planning, directing, executing and reporting functions of this position.
