The University’s Health and Safety team are seeking to appoint a Drone Operations Coordinator who will provide advice and be responsible for operational matters and Remote Pilot (RP) training affecting the safety of operations at Deakin University, including excluded class drone operations. This role fulfills both the Chief Pilot and Maintenance Controller roles under Deakin Universities remotely piloted aircraft operator’s certificate (ReOC).
This is a new position at Deakin, and is critical to the successful and safe management and operation of Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPA’s, commonly known as ‘drones’) at Deakin in accordance with the requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), and associated Acts and Regulations.
This role will coordinate and support the safe operations of drones at Deakin University and will be responsible for ensuring the maintenance of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) in accordance with the manufacturer specifications.
This position is initially fixed term for 6 months, and in this time will focus on activities to maintain and appropriately operate within Deakin’s ReOC, along with supporting the implementation of suitable procedures, frameworks and software systems to effectively administer drone operations at Deakin.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Identify, lead and actively promote change within own area of responsibility and understand and communicate the reasons for the change
Consult a diverse range of stakeholders and experts, not immediately involved, to gain a broader and deeper understanding of a specific issue
Distil the core issues from complex information, draws accurate conclusions and condense complex information and next steps into simple concise terms that others can understand
Promote technical solutions to modernise work practices and ensure alignment with Deakin’s strategic direction
Seek feedback on improvement opportunities from a diverse range of key stakeholders and implement change through appropriate channels and overcomes obstacles to change
Plan and oversee all aspects of the end-to-end project to deliver sustainable outcomes, value within constraints of time, cost and quality
To be successful, you’ll have:
A combination of training and experience working in aviation, manned or unmanned aircraft
A remote Pilot’s licence (RePL) for fixed-wing (7kg) and multi-rotor (25kg) with a minimum 100 RPA flight hours.
Extensive experience with remotely piloted aircraft, occupational health and safety and CASA documentation
