Data Analyst

The Ice and Environmental Services Division is currently accepting resumes from qualified individuals for the position of Data Analyst in St. John’s, NL. In this position, you will play an important role in the delivery of services to the clients of the Ice and Environmental Services Division.

Responsibilities

Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports

Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality

Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets

Work with management and the client to prioritize information needs

Use ArcGIS and MATLAB software to create maps and charts for client decision making

Locate and define new process improvement opportunities

Ensure that all data is collected and analyzed in a manner consistent with the quality assurance procedures

Shift work (including weekends) is required, particularly during ice season (approximately January-June)

Assist the division’s Onshore Lead in determining the levels of data required for various reports

Qualifications

Diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental technology, geography, computer science or statistics would be preferred

Previous work experience analyzing large quantities of data is required

Demonstrated experience preparing queries, writing reports and presenting findings

Strong knowledge/experience with reporting, databases, and/or programming

Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets

Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

Experience in working with ArcGIS is preferred

Previous experience working with Meteorological and Oceanographic data would be an asset
