The Principal Electrical Engineer is responsible for the technical realization of the Airfield innovation roadmap by delivering validated product designs which are compliant with requirements, on time and on budget, and at the right product cost. The Principal Engineer is an energetic, creative problem solver who possesses deep domain expertise and broad systems-level knowledge to create detailed product designs and ensure design quality across engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

Provides technical leadership to the Innovation Team

Serves as the key R&D representative to cross-functional product development teams and ensures proper execution of R&D project deliverables according to project plans, including budget and schedule

Supports and trains engineering teams on the Product Development Process

Translates product requirements into detailed, testable engineering specifications compliant with both internal and external standards

Leads design feasibility studies for product development projects

Creates detailed product designs and organize the necessary design resources to execute projects

Leads design reviews spanning all applicable engineering disciplines

Documents product quality assurance activities during the design phase of projects (verification, simulation, industrial prototyping, etc.) and ensure successful passing of agreed validation plan

Leads and supports DFx

Performs technical risk analysis (DFMEA), mitigation actions, and proactive escalation

Continually assesses the IP landscape for potential patent opportunities and risks

Evaluates emerging technology and technical trends relevant to the product roadmap

Works with global supply chain team to identify key suppliers and technology partners

Advances the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of emerging technology required for realization of the innovation roadmap

Documents lessons learned and maintain design guidelines and standards

Contributes to design, tools, and process standardization between globally-distributed engineering teams

Works with globally-distributed, cross functional teams.

Maintains and shares current knowledge of global product regulatory standards (FAA, ICAO, IEC, etc)

Skills/Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and at least 10 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience leading technical teams through stage-gate product development projects

Experience leading design reviews

Project management capabilities

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Comprehensive mixed signal design experience, including ARM microprocessor-based designs, sensing, A/D and D/A converters, simulation, schematic capture, and layout

Experience with wireless communications (cellular communications a plus)

Experience with SMPS and constant current power supply design
