Chief Financial Officer, Aviation Job at VSE Corporation Miramar, FL

SUMMARY: Reporting directly to the VSE Corporation’s Senior Vice President and CFO, the Aviation CFO is a senior leader position with an exciting opportunity to drive transformational growth in a company that is helping to set a new standard for customer service and excellence. This role has full segment financial accountability for VSE’s largest and fastest growing Segment and will contribute to setting the strategic vision and direction to achieve profitable growth. The Aviation CFO will be responsible for partnering with the Aviation Group President, the Segment’s functional leaders/GMs and the Finance and Accounting functions to drive collaborative solutions as the Segment continues to grow and transform. This role is responsible for the Segment’s overall financial results including financial reporting, forecasting, accounting oversight, organic growth underwriting, cash and credit management, acquisition integration activities, and maintaining a strong controls environment. The Segment CFO will have a dotted-line reporting to the Segment President. In addition, the Segment CFO will directly manage the segment’s finance team and have dotted-line accountability for the segment’s accounting organization.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Full oversight of Segment financial reporting including both SEC filings and management reporting including additional reporting as necessary.
  • Own and successfully drive detailed financial forecasting by programs across numerous sites and product lines to drive accountability, transparency, and risk mitigation with sales leaders and operational counterparts.
  • Drive process improvement and systems integrations including for acquisition integration activities; foster a culture of continuous improvement focused on simpler, leaner processes to reduce manual processes and touch time.
  • Oversee and advise accounting teams responsible for monthly financial reporting and expense management, drive team engagement and coordination across sites while enabling policy enhancements that meet the needs of the business.
  • Manage organic growth investment underwriting including full P&L development and returns analysis; connect directly with GMs and product line leaders to evaluate new growth opportunities and expansions to evaluate risks and sensitivities to financial and operational model.
  • Oversee cash management team responsible for daily cash collections and disbursements and monthly and quarter forecasting; support sales leaders and customers through credit approvals and to reconcile outstanding aging or disputed invoices.
  • Foster a strong controls environment that meets both SOX and internal controls standards to mitigate risks as the Segment continues to grow in complexity, size, and geographic territory.
  • Manage indirect expense budgeting and actuals reporting for Segment President and functional leaders to drive transparency, accountability, and ease of understanding to help achieve annual plan.
  • Support tax and treasury responsibilities as necessary including international expansion opportunities.
  • Partner with VSE CEO, CFO and Aviation President to support acquisition strategic evaluations and due diligence.
  • Provide strategic financial thought leadership to long-range planning and budgeting processes; set and present annual budgets while managing monthly re-forecasting for product lines and sites to track performance to financial objectives.
  • Assist in supporting external audit engagements.
  • Play a critical role on the extended CFO leadership team; combine best-in-class accounting processes and people leadership to help build a culture focused on continuous improvement and respect for team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar field.
  • 16 years of progressive experience, including at least 5 years in a finance leadership role overseeing standalone division.
  • At least 4 years of managing a high-performing FP&A team.
  • At least 2 years of deal underwriting expertise.
  • At least 2 years in Accounting or Audit expertise.
  • Excellent communication skills including financial presentations, oral and written communications.
  • Experience in managing and developing a large team of managers and individual contributors (at least 15 direct or indirect employees).
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to work cross functionally and translate complex finance and accounting concepts.
  • Confident in dealing with leaders at all levels including Company CEO and Board of Directors to present critical financial matters.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPA or MBA degree
  • Public company divisional financial experience (aerospace experience preferred)
  • Prior public accounting experience with a Big-4 firm or similar
  • Experience fully integrating acquisitions including ERP migration
  • Prior experience with Oracle/Hyperion(or equivalent) Planning tools and Quantum(or similar) ERP; proficient with Microsoft applications and expert in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
