Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is seeking a candidate for The Aviation Safety Manager (ASM)is a full time position within the School of Aviation Safety Department and reports directly to the SOA Dean. The ASM assists in the management of all aspects of the aviation safety function for SOA. The ASM is primarily responsible for managing internal aviation safety and ensuring compliance with applicable aviation safety regulations and policies. The ASM shall coordinate closely with the Chief Flight Instructor, Fleet Maintenance Director, and other safety representatives to identify, investigate and manage aviation safety hazards, incidents, and accidents; coordinate and carry out actions to manage or mitigate risk; and provide support of SOA’s Safety Management System (SMS).
The Safety Manager—who operates as the Safety Officer for the School—monitors safety policy and procedures throughout the year to include scheduled and unscheduled inspections. As outlined in the SMS manual, the Aviation Safety Manager is responsible for the following safety accountabilities:
Implements management systems that will establish and maintain safe work practices
Collects safety data and conducts assessment of the safety program
Serves as Chair of the School of Aviation Safety Committee
Conducts necessary safety training
Develops and delivers a safety newsletter to be delivered to a faculty, staff, and students
Coordinates with the University Risk Manager to align School of Aviation safety policy and procedures with University safety policy and procedures
Process safety reports submitted by Flight Operations personnel.
Performs risk analyses and risk assessments during safety investigations and during the safety risk management process.
Assists operational department(s) in working through the safety risk management process.
Performs data analysis using data from various Safety Assurance programs to measure and report on the effectiveness of risk controls.
Completes safety data requests as requested.
Develops and maintains content for the periodic safety data review process.
Develops and maintains means of safety promotion content and delivery method for the SOA.
Develops and maintains an internal aviation hazard and incident reporting system, lead investigations of internal aviation incidents, and initiate corrective action(s) as necessary.
Monitors and evaluates the results of corrective actions; ensure that the feedback loop and control measures are in place and working efficiently.
Performs duties as an active member of the Emergency Response team when requested.
Attends and presents at the semi-annual SOA safety forum.
Reviews current best practices from FAA and industry sources for practices applicable to Flight Crew Operations, Dispatch, Fleet Maintenance and Air Traffic Control

Bachelor’s Degree required with extensive experience in the Aviation Industry
Minimum experience requirements: 5 years of Aviation Experience
Must be willing and able to work overtime and weekend shifts as required
Experience in the Aviation Safety field

The minimum salary for this position is $62,531 and includes full benefits.
