Aviation Operations Specialist: They are primarily responsible for scheduling and dispatching tactical aircraft missions. They help operate one of the largest fleets of aircraft in the world and keep them running safe and efficient.

Air Traffic Control Operator: They are responsible for tracking planes and giving them landing and takeoff instructions at air traffic control facilities.

Job Duties:

  • Aviation Operations Specialist: Process local and cross-country flight clearances; check accuracy of flight plans and coordinate them; maintain flight logs on incoming/outgoing flights and individual flight records; alert crash crews of emergencies; interpret and post weather reports
  • Air Traffic Control Operator: Control airborne and ground traffic; assist in the installation/relocation of tactical air traffic control facilities; process flight plan data and maintain logs, records, files and tape recordings of voice communications
  • Attend Basic and Advanced Training (paid)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Age – 17 to 34 years old
  • Education – Current Senior in High School(HS), HS Diploma, GED, GED equivalent, or higher education level completed
  • Associates and Bachelor’s Degrees (in any major or field) guarantee you an advanced promotion upon joining.
  • Citizenship – U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident
  • Submit to background and medical screening
  • Receive a passing score on the ASVAB
  • Aviation Operations Specialist: receive a sub-score of 91 in the Skilled Technical category
  • Air Traffic Control Operator: receive a sub-score of 101 in the Skilled Technical category
  • Sub-score categories will always be displayed as a higher number than the overall ASVAB score

Training:

· Attend 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 8 to 15 weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job instruction. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and in the field under simulated combat conditions. Some of the skills you’ll learn are: introduction to Army aviation operations and record keeping; procedures for scheduling aircrafts and assigning crew; flight planning and airfield operations, aircraft recognition, and communications and radar procedures

  • Various lengths of contracts available from 2 years to 6 years normally
  • Additional pay allowances based on additional qualifications
  • Foreign language proficiency (must take a test)( pay is up to $400 for each language you demonstrate proficiency in and can receive up to $1,000 a month)
  • Flight pay and airborne pay
  • Additional living allowance for high cost of living areas (varies by location and number of dependents)
